You’ve seen the pieces. Now meet the person behind them.
Josh Paine’s Creators Collection is built on freedom, creativity, and choosing your own path. It’s about stepping away from instant gratification and leaning into the process. Taking your time. Creating without permission. Letting who you really are come through, even when it would be easier to blend in.
We’ve been working with Josh for over a year, slowly shaping this collection through sketches, conversations, and countless refinements. Nothing here was rushed. Every piece was given the time it needed to feel right, not just visually, but emotionally.
What came out the other side is a collection that reflects where Josh is at in his life. Honest, intentional, and deeply personal, but open enough for anyone to connect with. This is Josh’s story, and this is how his Creators Collection came to life.
Walk us through each piece in your collection. What does each one represent to you personally?
The Connection Stacker Rings are about connection. My Mum said something to me recently that stuck: once you remove all material things, what’s left are the people around you. In today’s world, distance is normal. People move, travel, live separate lives. These rings are for anyone who has someone important to them but can’t always be physically close. They’re a reminder that connection still exists, regardless of distance.
The Reflection Ring represents emotion. Human emotion is deeper than just happy or sad, but I chose to show the two baselines and leave the rest open to interpretation. I like knowing that happiness and sadness are two sides of the same coin. Tough days shape you. Good days remind you why it’s worth it. Both are necessary.
The Freedom Necklace represents my personal creative journey. I’ve worn a simple silver chain most of my adult life, but over the past year, creating daily has pulled the best version of me to the surface. I hadn’t really seen silver chains with pendants done this way before, and I wanted to create something that went against the grain. It represents three of my favourite things to do: smiling, surfing, and sailing.
This part of the Creators Collection is an interview. The questions were asked by us. The answers are Josh’s.
What was the creative process like working with Billie Jo to bring these designs to life?
It was honestly so much fun. That first conversation was thrilling. I’d always wanted to create a physical product that meant something to me, but I’d never really pursued it.
Some of my favourite memories came right after our first call. Sitting at my desk with a pen and an old notebook, sketching wild ideas with no restrictions. Looking at those sketches now, while holding the final pieces over a year later, refined down to the smallest detail, is surreal.
What’s one specific detail in your collection that might go unnoticed but you’re really proud of?
There’s a subtle Anime influence throughout the collection, especially inspired by One Piece. For me, Anime represents being true to who you really are and not being afraid to show that side of yourself.
I remember when watching Anime wasn’t considered cool. Now, it’s something I proudly lean into. That theme of authenticity runs quietly through all the pieces. Anime just happens to be the medium I chose to carry it.
When you were designing these pieces, who did you picture wearing them?
I hope these pieces connect with people who feel free. Free from judgement, free from social expectations, and free from their own negative thoughts. People who genuinely love who they are and aren’t afraid to show it.
If someone’s never worn jewellery before but feels drawn to your collection, what would you tell them?
I think about this the same way I think about recommending Anime. When you discover something that feels right, you want to share it. That’s how I feel about jewellery.
I started wearing jewellery when my Mum bought me a ring in primary school. It felt good. It was a way to express who I was. If you’re drawn to these pieces, I’m your friend telling you to give it a go. Carry something meaningful with you. Let it represent who you are.
